Top 25 CHH Artists – August 2015

The August rankings feature a few surprises. There’s some motion near the top, but the majority of changes come from the middle of the pack. Let’s dive into the rankings and see how things stack up as we enter the dog days of summer, and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Note: Albums released in the second half of the month will not be completely updated until the next month due to lack of data.

Billboard 200 Peak: 13 (On chart for 3 weeks)
Rap Albums Chart Peak: 2 (On chart for 8 weeks)
Christian Albums Chart Peak: 2 (On chart for 44 weeks)
Last Month’s Rank: 2

This has to be the surprise of the month. Mineo has been a solid second for far longer than these rankings have been around, but he has dropped down into 3rd just after the announcement that his next project, Uncomfortable, will be released later this year.

2. NF – Capitol Christian Music Group

Listeners Rank: 2
Most Recent Album/EP: Mansion (Mar. 2015)
Billboard 200 Peak: 62
Rap Albums Chart Peak: 9 (On chart for 11 weeks)
Christian Albums Chart Peak: 1 (Currently on chart for its 16th week)
Last Month’s Rank: 3

Ever since NF released his first full album, Mansion, back in March he’s been on the move. The album was a large success for such a new artist. He’s managed to unseat Mineo as number 2, but he’s got a long way to go before he gets anywhere near Lecrae.

1. Lecrae – Reach Records

Listeners Rank: 1
Most Recent Album/EP: Anomaly (Oct. 2014)
Billboard 200 Peak: 1 (On chart for 27 weeks)
Rap Albums Chart Peak: 1 (On chart for 42 weeks)
Christian Albums Chart Peak: 1 (Currently on chart for its 45th week)
Last Month’s Rank: 1

Lecrae remains CHH’s solid number 1 despite the genre’s most successful album ever, Anomaly, finally falling off of Billboard’s Rap Albums chart after an amazing 42 weeks. The album remains of the Top Christian Albums chart though, and it is very close to becoming the first CHH album to remain on the chart for an entire year.

Methodology

These rankings are compiled using data from a variety of sources. Spotify’s public numbers provide the backbone of the rankings. We use these numbers to see the number of listeners per month. We also factor in data from the Billboard rankings as well as how recently the artist released their album. The more recent the album release, the larger the bonus in the rankings they receive. The goal from this is to provide an objective set of rankings based off of available data. An artist’s top 5 songs are given a bonus and the next 5 are used in a less weighted way to compile the backbone of the data. Features and tracks released before 2012 are also considered, but they are given much less weight. If you have any further questions feel free to comment below.
